CV
Marco Fantuzzi studied at the University of Bologna, earning his laurea summa cum laude in June 1979. He subsequently pursued graduate studies at the University of Pisa, supported by a fellowship from June 1984 to November 1986.
- He began his academic career as a Lecturer in Ancient Greek Literature at the University of Trento (November 1986 – October 1993), where he was awarded tenure in 1989.
- From November 1993 to January 2000, he served as Associate Professor of Ancient Greek Literature at the University of Florence (tenured in 1995).
- From January 2000 to October 2017, he was Professor of Ancient Greek Literature at the University of Macerata (tenured in 2003).
- From January 2006 to August 2015, he also held a position as Visiting Professor of Greek at Columbia University, New York.
- Between September 2017 and December 2022, he was Professor of Classics in the Department of Humanities at the University of Roehampton, London, where he now holds the title of Emeritus Professor.
- He currently teaches an undergraduate course and co-supervises doctoral theses in the Department of Greek and Latin at University College London (UCL).
Professor Fantuzzi is a member of the Academia Europaea and has held numerous prestigious fellowships, including:
- Margo Tytus Fellow, University of Cincinnati (July–August 2006)
- Fellow, School of Historical Studies, Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton (Fall 2012 and Summer 2013)
- European Research Council Visiting Scholar, University of Oxford (November–December 2013), as part of the project The Social and Cultural Construction of Emotions: The Greek Paradigm
- Alexander S. Onassis Foundation Scholarship, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (May–July 2014)
- Loeb Classical Foundation Award in 2014 for his commentary on the Rhesus ascribed to Euripides
- Visiting Research Fellow, Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies, Princeton University (June–August 2017)
- Visiting Associate in Hellenic Studies, Harvard Centre for Hellenic Studies, Washington, DC (2021–2022)
- Loeb Classical Foundation Award in 2022 for his forthcoming book Bucolic Loves, under contract with Oxford University Press.
- Research Award from A. von Humboldt Stiftung (2025-2026).
He has been a
- Visiting Fellow at several colleges of the University of Cambridge, including Wolfson College (2007) and New Hall (2002–2003)
- Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of Classics at King’s College London (1997–1998).
- Since 2018, he has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK)
